Best Ways To Maximize Your Space In Your Van
Maximize You’re back Doors-
When you live in a tiny place you need to think of anything to maximize every area you can. On our back doors we had a good amount of space that was just wasted space. We had a few different shoes and no where to put them. Having them on the back doors was a great idea that I thought of and I waned to share it. On the other door we have a three compartment storage for random knickknacks and it has come in handy. You don’t know how many things we need to just put our everyday stuff and having different compartments is a must.
Maximizing you’re counter space- Don’t Clutter It Up
In the photo above you can see our van is not finished yet but this is the point where you have to think of ways to maximize every inch of your rig to hold things that you will need. In the photo you can see we used the empty space under the upper cabinets to hold our spices. We bought some small jars and just screwed the caps to the cabinet so when we take the jar down the cap stays up there. This is a great way we can have our favorite spices and they are out of the way of getting knocked off.
Extending you’re out door space-
Building an outdoor table that comes off our bed was probably the coolest feature we built in our van. As i’m writing this post it’s so surreal to think that my husband and I built this. Before we did our van we have never done any kind of building or anything before so that fact that we built this and it works is a huge accomplishment.
Our van is the Ford Transit extended and it’s about 90 square feet of living space. Our van is not the largest compared to the other vans but with us doing an outdoor table it makes our van larger in terms of living space.
When we built our bed we had room in-between our bed for our table. So we maximize that space and had a pull out table.
As you can see we decided to do all different beer caps simply because my husband is a big beer fan and likes to try all different kinds so we compromised and he got his beer table. When the table is tucked away you can’t tell that there is one and we like that. If your wanted to see the logistics on how we built this and the dementions check out this video. We explained it here.
Making you’re outside apart of your space.
In this photo above you can see that our van is not completed but we still took it out on some trips to test it out and see what needed to be changed or added. This moon shade collapsible awning is the perfect way to make the outside apart of your space. It blocks rain and provides shade and is so perfect for making a nice little porch outside your space.
This is key for extra storage In your van. In all of the cargo vans there is this space to put a shelf for storage and you can put all kinds of stuff up here. In ours we have these pins and out toiletries and hair stuff, towels, some hiking stuff and our jackery. The best part about this is you can put whatever you up here. Some people even put doors and make it look just like the rest of the cabinets in their living space.
The one and only con about having this headliner shelf is when your in the cab and you go to stand up to get in the back you do loose some head clearance but to us and just about everyone it is so worth it. When your living in 70 square feet you need to take advantage of everything you can.
