Would you canoe to a glacier? Alaska Adventures…

Wow let’s take a moment to talk about Alaska. I feel like this is going be a long post and I could go on forever about it but i’ll try to keep this post short and sweet.

Down below you can see some photos of all of us on the canoe and hiking to the glacier. Im sure you have checked out the photos by now before you read this because that’s what I normally do when I read blogs so let’s start at the beginning .

How the heck did we get here.

A cruise from Seattle and this glacier you see is in Juneau, Alaska and one way to get here is through an excursion. My brother actually found this not through the cruise ship but just by doing some research of things to do in the area. ABAK Wilderness Trips is what company we found and absolutely fell in love with the experience and our tour guides, Abby and Brad. They pick you up right from where our cruise ship docked and brought us to there hub area and we all got our hiking and canoeing gear and drove over to the start of the hike for the trip.

There was 12 of us total on the canoe including our 2 tour guides. Once we got to the start of the hike it was just under a mile to get to the glacier fed lake where we put the canoe into the water and started the 3 mile trip in the water to get to the glacier. Once we made it to the glacier we got off the canoes and hiked around the glacier for over an hour or so.

Just seeing the glacier in person was so incredibly amazing. I could use all these words but to be honest it just took my breath away and I was speechless. We have all seen them on videos, photos or movies but to see it in person was really something special that I will never forget.

After we hiked around for over an hour we all got back in the canoe and paddled back another 3 miles to do the hike back to the big van we all came in. The company we did this excursion with provided all of our gear and boots and they also gave us water bottles and some snacks. I could not have recommended this more and now that we have done it I would recommend this to everyone that goes to Alaska!
