Will The Desert Remember Us?
The canyons and valleys are really something. When we went hiking in the grand Canyon and Horse Shoe Bend it was such an intense experience. We are from Florida so we were not used to the dry air and many different colors of sand.
The Grand Canyon is a place to just loose your thoughts and just fully be present with where you are. I mean look at it! There is a reason they call it the Grand Canyon.
Logan and I did a big hike called Bright Angle Trail. If you do the full hike it’s 15.3 miles. Ya it’s a big one. The best thing about this hike is you go far down into the canyon and under these huge rocks. There is also camping at the bottom near the river if you’re up for that.
We started pretty early in the morning before it got too hot. And I definitely recommend that. There are a few places along the trail to get water and a nice bathroom. We only went down the river and had lunch and then went back up to the top. Once you are at the bottom of the canyon it’s very hot and the sun is just beating down on you. Aside from it being hot once you hit the river there are trees and some places to escape the sun light and then we headed back up to the top. We really took our time with this hike and it took us a good 6 hours. So if you decide to do this hike make sure you have good shoes, lots of water and food.
We also wanted to share Horseshoe Bend. This little spot is really cool. The parking lot and trailhead is is right by where you can see this incredible spot. There is a small fee of $5 (as of 2019) when we went and you just park the car and have a short walk up a little hill and that’s it. This area is so easy to get to and once you see the overlook you will be amazed at the sites. The Colorado river carved this canyon and it being roughly 1,000 ft deep and was overtime the river cut through the uplifted layers of sandstone over 5 million years ago. That’s crazy to me and is so cool to see in person. Pictures don’t even do it justice just like the Grand Canyon this is a place you have to come see for yourself.
